Cale Makar is rested, healed and eager to begin what he believes can be a journey to another Stanley Cup championship, just like the one he and the Colorado Avalanche had 14 months ago.Makar, the Avalanche defenseman, is training this week at the 13th annual 2023 BioSteel NHL Camp in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with teammate Nathan MacKinnon, Edmonton Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares, and Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard https://www.krakenproteamstore.com/ales-stezka-jersey, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. But Makar's focus is on getting to Denver for training camp next month, especially considering the Avalanche were eliminated in the Western Conference First Round last season."I know a lot of the guys are itching to get back to camp, " the 24 year old said Tuesday. "I feel like last year that was maybe not the thing you wanted to get back to it, you wanted a little bit of time to make sure your body and mentally you could recover from the run we went on. I think a lot of the guys are itching to get back now. A lot of the guys will get in a couple weeks before camp so it should be awesome." Makar attends Biosteel NHL Camp to kick off workouts Makar said this offseason has been "a little bit of a grind" for him because he's been trying to overcome ailments he had at the end of last season that lingered longer than he expected. But he also feels he's no different than many of his Avalanche teammates in that they utilized the longer than expected offseason, unfortunately afforded to them because of losing to the Seattle Kraken in the first round, to get into the shape they need to be going into training camp. The Avalanche played their last game of last season April 30, losing 2 1 in Game 7 against Seattle. They played nearly two months longer in 2021 22, winning the Stanley Cup on June 26. Makar was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as most valuable player in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, when he had 29 points eight goals, 21 assists in 20 games. He also won the Norris Trophy as the League's best defenseman that season, with 86 points 28 goals, 58 assists in 77 games. That's 97 games in 2021 22.He played just 60 regular season games, missing time because of a concussion and then a lower body injury, and seven in the playoffs last season."It's a win lose scenario, but one of the things for us as a team being unfortunately eliminated early is it gave us a little more rest time, " Makar said. "For a team that was so banged up this past year and had so many man games lost I think that was huge. I think a lot of guys really took advantage. It mentally can give us a little bit of a break and clear it; guys can reset a little bit. Everything felt like it was in super speed mode last summer Devin Shore Jersey, so this summer you got to slow things down a little bit and regroup yourself."Makar also said he's a fan of everything the Avalanche did to tinker with the roster.Colorado traded for forwards Ryan Johansen Nashville Predators and Ross Colton Tampa Bay Lightning and signed free agent forwards Miles Wood six years and Jonathan Drouin one year. They lost forwards Evan Rodrigues four year contract with the Florida Panthers , Alex Newhook traded to the Montreal Canadiens , J.T. Compher five year contract with the Detroit Red Wings , Lars Eller two year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Denis Malgin unrestricted free agent. Defensemen Erik Johnson signed a one year contract with the Buffalo Sabres."I feel like we put ourselves in the best possible spot to have a chance again, " Makar said. "The guys we picked up are hard working guys that are going to be reliable every single night. I think our management did a great job of filling holes in our lineup that were definitely needed from the year prior, exposed." The crew reveals Cale Makar as the top defensemen He's hoping the next move by the Avalanche is to sign defenseman Devon Toews, who has one year remaining on his contract before he can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. The 29 year old had 50 points seven goals, 43 assists in 80 regular season games and nine points one goal https://www.krakenproteamstore.com/jordan-eberle-jersey, eight assists in seven playoff games last season. He had 57 points 13 goals, 44 assists in 66 games in 2021 22 and 15 points five goals, 10 assists in 20 playoff games during the Cup run."I feel like he's one of the best defensemen in the League, " Makar said. "I don't know if he's underrated anymore. I have no doubt they'll get something done. You want something that works for both sides and he's a guy that definitely deserves it."Even without Toews extended, the Avalanche have 14 players signed through at least 2024 25.That list includes Makar, MacKinnon, Wood, Colton, forwards Valeri Nichushkin and Artturi Lehkonen, and defensemen Samuel Girard and Josh Manson signed for at least three more seasons. Even with captain Video: Makar attends Biosteel NHL Camp to kick off workouts set to be out for his second straight season following cartilage transplant surgery on his right knee May 10, the Avalanche championship window appears to be open for several seasons to come."Hopefully that window keeps extending and extending and we keep bringing in guys that can help and fill out the team, " Makar said. "It's exciting to be on a team like that, to have the ability and to know you're going to have a shot at it every year. We feel that we're capable of it."

ELMONT, N. Y. Samuel Ersson made 25 saves, and the Philadelphia Flyers ended the New York Islanders' three game winning streak with a 1 0 shootout victory at UBS Arena on Saturday. 'With this win, we get right back into the win column and keep building on what we've been doing since the start of this season. 'Tyson Foerster scored the lone goal in the fourth round of the shootout to win it for the Flyers 11 9 1 , who had lost two straight, including 3 1 to the New York Rangers on Friday, after winning their previous five. Foerster beat Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin glove side. 'I was talking to [Flyers No. 1 goalie Carter] Hart before [my shot],' Foerster said. 'Usually, after practice, I mess around with Hart, and I do that move quite a bit Nick Seeler Jersey. So, he just told me, Yeah, do it,' and it ended up working. ' PHI NYI: Foerster wins it for Flyers in shootout Sorokin made 40 saves for the Islanders 8 6 6 , who extended their point streak to six games 3 0 3. He stopped three shots in the shootout. It was Sorokin's second shutout of the season and 18th in the NHL. 'I thought the effort was outstanding,' New York coach Lane Lambert said. 'I'm proud of our team. We've played a lot of hockey lately, traveled a lot lately, including last night. The four defensemen that played last night 5 3 win at Ottawa Senators played a ton of minutes. And I thought it wasn't necessarily pretty at times. But I thought we gutted it out, and we battled, and I give our team full marks. ' PHI NYI: Ersson propels Flyers with 25 save effort Through the opening six minutes of the game, New York outshot Philadelphia 6 0. By the end of the first period, the Flyers had outshot the Islanders 12 6, not allowing a shot on goal over the final 16:55. Philadelphia also outshot New York 12 9 in the second period Mike Richards Jersey. 'We struggled in the first three or four minutes,' Flyers coach John Tortorella said. 'I don't think anyone really wanted the puck, it looked like. We knew they were banged up on the blue line. Their defense had played a lot of minutes yesterday. So, we were just trying to get it in and start our forecheck. Took us three or four minutes to get there, but once we did, I don't think we looked back. ' PHI NYI: Sorokin makes 40 stops in 18th NHL shutout Brock Nelson had a chance to give the Islanders the lead at 6:39 of the second, but Ersson stuck the left pad out to stop Nelson's rebound chance. Ersson stopped Julien Gauthier's shot at 11:23, whipping out the right pad on a wrist shot. Travis Konecny had a short handed breakaway 38 seconds into the third period after a Mathew Barzal turnover, but Sorokin got a blocker on the shot. Joel Farabee failed to tap home a pass to the glove side post for the Flyers at 7:54 of the third period after a feed from Ryan Poehling https://www.flyersprostore.com/tj-brennan-jersey. Philadelphia outshot New York 36 22 in regulation and 4 3 in overtime. 'I thought it was just one of those games where you've just got to bear down and try and keep it simple,' Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson said. 'Keep the shift short, and we battled, competed, and fought for a hard fought point. 'NOTES: Flyers defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen was activated off long term injured reserve and played in his first game of the season. He had three shots on goal in 17:49 of ice time. Islanders defenseman Grant Hutton played 10:11 in his first NHL game since April 15, 2022, after being recalled from Bridgeport of the AHL on Saturday. Sorokin became the eighth goalie to debut since 1929 30 with 18 shutouts prior to his 150th game. Related Content Islanders celebrate Clutterbuck's 1,000th NHL game with ceremonyNov 26, 2023

But everything is going according to plan." Nikita Alexandrov was in the starting lineup for his season debut with Buchnevich out.Vegas Golden KnightsAlec Martinez made his season debut against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. The defenseman skated in a red non contact jersey in Dallas on Tuesday morning prior to the Golden Knights' 3 2 shootout win against the Stars.Martinez was placed on injured reserve Oct. 8 after suffering an upper body injury that kept him out for the final two preseason games and the first four games of the regular season.Martinez had 14 points three goals, 11 assists , 244 blocked shots, and was plus 30 in 77 regular season games last season. Penguins coach Mike Sullivan did not provide a timeframe for Letang's recovery.Ryan Shea replaced Letang on a defense pair with Ryan Graves in practice."Ryan Shea is a smart player. I think he's very good with the puck, " Sullivan said. "He's a guy that has deceptive playmaking ability. These are the guys, obviously, that are in the conversation on whether or not they go in the lineup for us."Shea Griffin Mendel Jersey, 26, could make his NHL debut at the St. Louis Blues on Saturday 8 p.m. ET; SN PIT, BSMW."It would be a dream come true, " Shea said. "It would be great to get in the lineup, whenever that is."In his 18th NHL season, Letang has averaged 24:47 of ice time per game, second on the Penguins behind defenseman Erik Karlsson 25:15. Jeff Carter practiced in that spot on Thursday. Wes CrosbyOttawa SenatorsJosh Norris made his season debut and scored twice in his first game since Jan. 21, a 6 1 win against the Washington Capitals at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa on Wednesday. The 24 year old center missed all of preseason after tweaking something in his shoulder a week before training camp. He's missed 90 games the past two seasons because of shoulder injuries and had season ending surgery in late January. His first goal of the season at 12:29 of the first period gave the Senators a 2 0 lead. He later made it 3 1 at 1:47 of the second period.Ottawa coach D.J. Smith said Norris would take face offs and not have any physical limitations."At this point, the only limitation is with reps, " Smith said. "He hasn't played in almost a year, so, I mean, we've got to be conscious of that."Smith said Norris was ready to return a while ago. They had Wednesday as the worst case scenario."Josh is a big part of that room, " Smith said. "He's grown with these guys right from a young age. A lot of them are best friends in there. The guys are pulling for him, so it's going to be emotional, I'm sure, for him to get back out there. I can tell you it's been agonizing for him, wanting to play, and just the setbacks here and there."Norris was the center on the third line with Dominik Kubalik and Drake Batherson and on the second power play unit during the morning skate."He changes everything, " captain Brady Tkachuk said. "The speed he brings, being able to skate up with the puck and create separation for linemates. I think the most underrated thing about him is the 200 foot player that he is. As good as he is offensively, putting pucks to the net and skating, he's a great shutdown guy and [doesn't] give them much."He'd be lying if he wasn't a little nervous, but I think nerves are good, right? Nerves turn into excitement. I think he'll get a nice little ovation from the fans tonight when he gets back out there." Callum Fraser Justin Robidas Jersey
